I know we all like chain stores because they provide us with affordable knockoffs that make us happy but grr sometimes when I have gone to great lengths to find my own version or style that is inspired by the real thing it REALLY BOTHERS ME when I see it perfectly copied in a chain store a few MONTHS later. Case in point is of the clear headband I was so stoked to get on ebay (see 24th MAY post) and now as of friday they are in sportsgirl! has this ever happened to anyone else? I don't like it when I have been wearing something for ages and then it becomes available to the general masses who
a) haven't got a clue that sportsgirl (or even worse portmans eeew) are ripping off someone else's idea or
b) start saying things to me like "oooh those are really in fashion right now"
I know what I am wearing and I like it cos I like it not cos its "really in fashion right now".

I agree, I never wear anything because it's "in fashion right now". If you want to wear something that everyone else is starting to wear(instead of going nooo it's all over and leaving it in the closet to rot)I guess the trick is just to wear it in creative and unexpected ways. And if anyone ever asks, you were doing it first. ( That's what I tell people anyway).
totally agree. to add to that, i get really riled up when i read non-specialised 'fashion' magazines.. nothing new, everythings been done, u've done it, and they make what u've developed as ur personal style into mainstream nothingness. i guess it gives us drive to be more experimental?.. *big sigh*
Like the others I agree But we're all victims of it whether we like it or not...
I just hate it when Ive discovered a new label and before long, a store opens at a certain giant shopping centre so then everyone has access to it... damn them!
You know..I really love your blog since i'm a narcisstic Melbournite lol. I'm no fashion guru, I don't buy Vogue or keep up to date with Valentino or Dior. But I do appreciate it and you're right about mass produced clothing styles diminishing the value of real authentic couture. The problem lies with chain stores like Dolly Girl, Supre, Glassons, JustJeans that target the general public and provide IDENTICAL stock with a few variations here and there. The people have NO CHOICE, it's like a conspiracy! And its magazines like Cleo, Cosmo and Dollygirl that fuel this mindless consumerism. But thankfully there are renegade Blogs like yours that promote creativity and individuality! Hoorah for you! But I implore you to pity the teenyboppers sporting Supre uniforms or generic Cotton On jumpers. They're just pawns in the hands of evil evil mass producing chain stores.
I too hate all those hideous magazines with their B list celebrities and their sex tips and revolting fashion spreads. Maud, I feel your pain. Three cheers for getting the very first clear headband into Australia though! Essentially you have pioneered a trend!
